NYC Teachers: Shortage Fair

I am going to the shortage fair on Monday and was given a list of schools who may be there and what they are hiring for.

I was told to do research on the schools prior to getting there.

What should I be looking at? I really don't know anything about the city so I am quite lost.

I think I have narrowed it down to either queens or brooklyn because manhattan or the bronx would take too long of a public transportation commute.

anything else that can help me out?

Go to the DOE website....you will find out info on the kids, neighborhood, teachers, programs they have etc...Just go to schools...type in school number and you will get the page for each school HTHChat Icon

thanks i saw that. but other than going by what the website says I really have no idea how to narrow it down further.

I work in manhattan and the commute is actually not that bad. I go out of Ronkonkoma and am in the city in usually 1 hr and 10 minutes in the morning. Express trains are wonderful.

There is a site called Inside Schools that has reviews. If you google each school, it might give you other similar review sites.

Also, look up the schools on RateMyTeacher.com- you may get a feel for the environment based on what the kids say about the teachers and administrators. Though I'd take the info from RMT with a grain of salt- Inside Schools sends a reporter to each school, so that info is very objective.
