NYC Teachers makeup days for Sandy
I noticed some LI districts already adjusted some vacations to give back days lost for Sandy. Anyone hear anything about DOE plans?

im on LI and my district hasn't done anything yet, bc we are waiting to here what King says.
some of those districts that already made plans may be adjusting plans again

What?! I thought you had some days built in?
My friend who has kids in Middle Country said they are giving back Wed, Thurs, and Fri of February break. (In addition to Friday and Tuesday around Memorial Day weekend).

My union rep said they aren't saying anything yet because their might be a bill passed to allow for a shorter school year this year only

We have given up days in March and Apri. However my super said if the are able to pass new legislation then we will be able to get them back? IDK.

Nothing is set in stone...just plans as to what they are going to do. The govenor can pass a bill to waive or change the amount of school days they kids are required to attend.
I heard that he will prob waive 4 to five days off.

I haven't heard a thing but honestly, NYC always has extra days so it should not be an issue..just expect to be huffing it or taking off for a snow day this year

I thought/assumed this but my AP said they counted and there were no days built in this year....she could be wrong of course.
I hope they pass the bill, I heard that also and it does sound possible.

My Superintendent is requesting that our Board of Ed take away our Feb break. Just saw a posting on the school FB page.

Ughh.... Half Hollow Hills sent an email alerting us to the fact that changes are going to be made to the February break.
So many of my colleagues have plans... Airline tickets and hotel reservations. What a mess!

DH just heard oceanside schools (obviously not nyc) lost feb break. But they were closed many more days than we were in nyc. I really hope we dont have to make up and if we do then maybe take a little off each break and not lose an enitre break.

Mine too. He also said any snow days will come out of spring break.
Same for us. We'll see what the board says on Monday it's going to be a long 3 months after Christmas! As it is our Spring break was only 4 days.

What's needed. This year, only 2.
Yeah, I'd say we usually have about 183 in our calendar. I read the chancellor wants to add back days even if the state waives the 180 day requirement. But the union will have to come to some agreement. But teachers only had off 4 days in the city so I am guessing they could potentially agree to adding back 2 days. We'll see. Just hope they figure it out soon and don't add them to the end of the year because that would be pointless and annoying. Regardless I hope the snow isn't bad this winter becasue they aren't going to close again for anything.

West Islip school district does not have any to make up unless they use snow days. They were closed one whole week.
