NYC Teachers...

Hey! So I have been doing lots of research on what happens after baby with work. I know that we get 6 weeks paid (our own days) with insurance, and then 6 weeks unpaid with insurance. I also know that you can do 4 years unpaid with no insurance and that you can do cobra.

I am wondering a few things though. I saw on the website that effective April 1, that members can get a continuation of coverage for 6 months?

I want to be able to stay home with the baby, but our issue is the health insurance, since my husband does not get good coverage through his jobl How much is cobra? Anyone else having this issue?

Tia!

Couple of things when are you due because depending on that your paid vs unpaid maybe different. Also there was an article about the April 1st extension of coverage in the match teachers magazine. I'm not sure but from what I read in that article it's talking about our welfare insurance (ie prescription, eye care and dental) not the health insurance. From what I gather cobra is VERY expensive I am going to a workshop from the doe/uft in a few weeks and will have more info then...you should look into when you are eligible to attend this it is based on your due date

Why would when you are due make a difference with paid/unpaid? I have a good contact at the union if you want the info let me know.
