NYC maternity leave..I need help!
I am a NYC teacher and due on Dec. 13. I had a bad two years which have made me negative days ( a lot of days)!! What do I do? I'm assuming my entire maternity leave will be unpaid. If you have any answers about this PLEASE HELP!! TIA

I think u need a dr's note.. and then you can use FMLA which is 12 weeks unpaid but you get health insurance.

The UFT has a maternity leave workshop every month. The next one is Aug 17. Here's the info:

Summer Maternity Workshop in Queens
WORKSHOP | 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM | 97-77 QUEENS BLVD., REGO PARK, NY, 11374
Maternity Workshop. Registration required. RSVP to Karla at [email protected] include your file#, due date, cell phone# and a non-DOE email address.
If you can't go, I'm sure you can email the contact listed and she can tell you who to call. I'm planning on going.

Don't worry. You can borrow days, and then you can also use a grace period. I suggest going to the UFT maternity workshop in Rego Park. I got great info there. I have 3 negative days,but will still get my 6 weeks paid.
Some people in there had 17 negative days.

That's me! I am negative about 17 days too. (I had a bad two years...really sick). But I don't know how I will stay out with no pay. I can do it for a little while but I also want to take longer than the 6 weeks. Do you know how many days you can borrow?

you can borrow up to 20 days and you must register for the workshop, it is only open for a certasin amount of people and it goes by due date.
I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO GO.
it was sooo friggin complicated and no ones situation is the same.

ITA the workship was great!! at the end you go in order from due date to ask questions. everyone's situation is different, so it was soooo helpful!
