NYC Maternity Leave Question
So I just went to a workshop and am a little confused about insurance.
If I am going out for the year..she told me to do FMLA(just insurance) and then childcare leave (nada) in which case I will be going onto my husbands insurance after FMLA runs out.
So does the baby go onto my insurance via FMLA? She said to put the baby directly under my husband's insurance but I don't get why I would pay when I can insure the baby under my own for the next 6 weeks.. I'm confused...what did u guys do?

Re: NYC Maternity Leave Question
I covered DD until FMLA ran out, and then we all went under DH's plan. It didn't cost me anything to have her on my plan.
If you want to add the baby to your plan, you have to fill out paperwork ASAP. Have the hospital give you a typed letter that says the baby's DOB and fax that over with your FMLA forms as soon as you get out of the hospital. The benefits office is a little dumb, so keep copies of everything.
If you're adding the baby directly to your DH's plan, send them the hospital letter and a copy of the birth certificate when you get it.
Sorry about all the acronyms
