Re: NYC Hair Salon
I live in Suffolk and travel an hour and a half to go to Vince Smith Hair Experience when I need something major done to my hair. I don't know where in NYC you're looking but they're in Battery Park City all the way in downtown Manhattan. Jackie is my favorite.

Re: NYC Hair Salon
I went to Bumble uptown, I felt like I was in a factory and the guy that cut it was awful.

Re: NYC Hair Salon
I like the Red Door Salon on 5th Ave around 54th Street, for really basic stuff.
For something edgy, find out if Blondie's is still open (in Hells Kitchen).
For cheaper, chain type of stuff, Dramatics actually gave me one of my best cuts ever (the branch on 5th near Union Square).

Re: NYC Hair Salon
I went to Alice Hair on 70th & 2nd for 6 yrs. At the end, she started getting a bit lax but I was very happy with her almost every time I went.
Now I got to Piu Tono (71st & 2nd) to Ryan and LOVE her.
Both salons are ~$75 for a cut (with highlights I usually spend ~$200).

I recommend TwoDo Salon
www.twodo.com
Sasha rocks and listens to what you want.
I think I pay somewhere around $80 for a cut...?

Re: NYC Hair Salon
I don't usually go to any nyc salons, but a couple of people in my office go to Shape NYC - 56 east 34th street. I went for a blow out once (the "victoria secret" they call it ) and I was impressed with the salon itself and the technician I had.
