Ny Nephew
Decided not to go into the Navy after all. I think mostly because he has a new girlfriend..
He says he was forced into applying by his step dad.
I asked him what his plan is then. He is working for a company 3/4 off the books and he doesn't have a car. He says he can't go get a real job until he has a car. He said he is going to get a part time job to save up for a car and then look for a real job.
I just want to smack him upside his head.
He's 22..was I like this at 22?

I had 3 jobs and freaking fantastic social life at 22. "kids today" are lazy and think they deserve it all. Smack him in the head, maybe it will work.

I was going to school FT, working 2 jobs and living on my own and paying my own way. He def needs a kick in the arse.

Where does he live? I didn't have a car at 22, so, I got a job in Manhattan, so I could take the train.
And how is he going to get to a part job without a car, if he can't get to a "real job".

at 22 i had a college degree, full time job, and was living on my own
are his parents encouraging him to have some sort of direction/plan in terms of his career?

My husband just said that if you decide to back out, when they pick you up to go, you tell them, and they can't make you go.
But once you go and start everything, you're stuck. So you can back out.

he took some of the tests already but has not signed anything yet. he can back out.
His father is not really a part of his life now guiding him and his mother and step father want him to do something but frankly, I think the kid just needs a smack.
He doesn't want to work in NYC. His uncle got him into the carpenters union as an apprentice and he couldn't get up early enough to make the training in the city.
He makes about $450 a week most of it cash and says he has no money. he lives at home, has no car..$2200/mo..I was living on my own with that salary, had a car, rent, car insurance and other crap...
