It is run by the ASPCA. The phone consultation is $55, because they receive no public funding. They are entirely donation funded. They put you on the phone with a Vet and they have a tremendous database of chemical information.

How did we find this out? Well, Ms. Dottie ate a fabric softener on Thursday night. We started freaking and called Animal Emergency in Commack. The receptionist there was fantastic and suggested we call APC, to save us the cost of admitting her, because it was very likely they would be able to help us.

I called, and got in touch with an on call vet right away. She talked me through everything, asked me tons of questions, ie. what brand softener, used or new, etc.

Turns out she didn't need emergency care and we were able to take care of it ourselves.
Now the BEST part. Because she ate a Bounce dryer sheet, BOUNCE picked up the phone call!!!

Saved us a ton of money and unnecessary stress on Dottie.


She ended up "expelling" the softener Friday night

I totally agree with you!! It’s a long story, but my cat, Nix, got into some Mr. Clean and I had to call and Mr. Clean paid for the call.

It's so important to have that number handy!!

I am glad that they are okay...but I also have to warn you of two things.
When Misty ate the Gorilla Glue they couldn't tell us anything even after we paid the $55 - they told us to take her to the vet and Gorilla Glue refused all responsibility for costs incurred from her surgery, phone calls, etc. because they have a warning on the bottle to keep away from small children and animals.

So, it's a good thing - no doubt...but be aware that they may not be able to resolve your problem and you still may be responsible for the phone call.


Either way, I'm glad Miss Dottie and Nix are OK!!!!!

My experience with that number was disappointing. Twice we've called and pretty much they didn't tell us anything we didn't already find out from searching on the internet.

And I'll never NOT spend $$$ to help one of my animals but in both instances, it happened to be a waste of money.
