Re: NPR: Laser hair removal
that's what I thought, but there was a sign in the waiting room for recommended tips? Isn't that weird?

I don't get it, why not? Its like everything else, a service isn't it?
I tip everything (if I remember), and usually what I can afford, but at least something, and especially if the service is good.

Would you tip your plastic surgeon? Or you eye lasik doctor?
That is how I would think about it.

But those services are covered by insurance. There is no format for a tip. The way its structured, it assumes you don't have money to pay for it anyway.
I give my doctors fruit baskets and candies for holidays. DH is a physician, never got cash, but gets all kind of odd gifts from his clients too. I'm looking at a thank you card now, with a 25 gift card in it.
I think I wouldn't cash tip a plastic surgeon or any kind of elective procedure, but I'd send something nice if all went well. If I can afford it, I don't see why not. If there was a tip jar at the doctors office, I would do it. I would def do it for my ped!

yes you def tip. It's like getting a wax IMO. I have friends that laser in the spa part of a gym and all they make is tip and a small percentage of the sale

Here is why I dont.
I go to someone who owns/does lasering. Its her business.
Therefore what I pay goes in her pocket and no one else.
None of these procedures that I do are covered under insurance.
Also, I may add, I go to someone who is slightly on the pricer side. I choose her due to referral and her service to me.
I could use someone else who is cheaper and she can get nothing.
