NPR: I think I am going to quit my job LONG Vent
I work from home everyday. I do online advertising and sales. Boring work.
The company I worked for went from doing fantastic to sinking faster than anything. I went from a 50 hour work week to 2 or 3 hours at best.
My boss laid off everyone but me and his assistant. We, in his words, were the best of the best. This all happened in August and I lost a substantial amount of income from him cutting my hours. DH is now the only steady income and its a strain but we are doing it and banking whatever little pay I get. Some weeks I don't work at all. But through it all I have hung in with my boss and his assistant. It's definitely rough but he kept promising that my hours would be back. Then that promise turned into something to say at the end of each call and held no weight.
So because of this I haven't been giving him my 100% but the work is getting done quickly just not as quick and its still done to his standards.
Today he emails me wanting me to bring my computer to his pc repair man because he feels that my computer may have a virus or is bogged down because I haven't been working as fast as I should. I used to turn out 7 or 8x more work than I am doing now.
I am feeling like this is the last straw. I don't get paid enough or sometimes at all to give him the same 100% I gave before. I am giving the 100% that equals the amount of work he gives. It's so frustrating because it was an awesome job that allowed me to stay home and be there for DS. Its hard to find a job that fits around his school schedule.
I sent him an email that said its not my computer. Its just that I am going at a slower pace and when my hours pick up so will I. I wrote some other stuff..not mean but not the yes sir kind of stuff a boss wants to hear either. I guess I am at the end of my rope with this job and lost it today. Now I am dreading checking my email to read his reply...but I think I am ready to quit. I just hate that I will lose whatever money I was bringing in.

I think he expects too much and you shouldn't be scared to check your emails. Who the HECK is he gonna hire to out put 7X more work then what you are doing now on 2-3 hours! That is not going to happen so be proud you were honest with him.

I hope whatever happens that you are in a better place emotionally. Sounds like this boss's expectations are rather high considering how inconsistant the work load is.
