NPR: Facebook- what do you do when . .
someone invites you to be their friend on facebook and you don't want them as your friend and it is someone you see on a fairly regular basis. Apparently I did not do a good enough job on my privacy settings and a couple of people that I would rather not have on there have managed to locate me. Since I see these people enough, I feel bad not accepting, but I don't feel comfy about it.

That's what I want to do, but I don't know how to respond when and if they approach me about it . . .

I just ingnore too. I've even blocked some people so that they cannot even find me by searching.

I plan on trying the ignore route and seeing how it goes.
A request from FIL? Good luck with that

I would ignore it for now, and if they ever ask you why, you could always do as people already suggested...say you don't use the site much, or maybe even that you only use it for corresponding with really close friends/family...
My aunt requested me the other day and I literally said "Are you kidding me?" out loud, LOL! And my MIL is my friend there too. I couldn't say no - but I'll admit it's a bit odd sometimes!

Oh thanks! I told DH I was ignoring him and I'll have no problem telling him there's no reason we need to be FB friends!
For original poster... If you find your privacy page, there is a list of each FB feature (basic info, personal info, wall posts, etc.) where you chose a setting for each as to who can see that info. If you go to customize, you can choose all friends except for the following... and enter that friend's name. So they are there as your friend but do not see anything you don't want them to.
I decided it was just better to ignore my FIL
