Now that you're a mom- do you ever feel bad...
Do you ever feel bad for the way you acted as a teen ? I mean I wasnt a bad teenager (never in trouble with the law or did anything illegal etc...) but just in generall I remember being so dis-respectful with my mom, staying out later than I knew she wanted me to etc....My dad passed away when I was 16, so my poor mom, who was unhealthy herself had the brunt of dealing with me alone...I just look at my DS now and wonder how I would handle it if he was a teen, and if he said anything hurtful to me etc...My mom passed away when I was 23 and sometimes I just wish I had her around after my DS was born and I became a mom myself to apologize for any stress I put her through KWIM ? Don't get me wrong, after I became an "adult" I took care of her while she was ill etc... but I just cant believe how different it is when you have a DC of your own ,,,Now I see why she was always trying to protect me and at the time I thought she was just being overbearing ...Just wondering if anyone else views the role of parenting different now that they are a mommy themselves

its normal for you to want your mom around especially after your own baby is born, do i have regrets? maybe a couple but honestly i was a GOOD kid. if i knew my dd would be the same way i was - i'd bei in my glory. i wasnt perfect but i was a good kid. never got mixed up in the really bad things.

I don't know if I feel "bad" but I did not give her enough credit.
I am the oldest of a lot of kids. Growing up, I never minded it, but I felt like I did a ton for these kids. I felt always felt like I had added responsiblities...
come to find out...it was a joke! I had an active social life, played sports...I can't believe I thought I had a hand in raising those kids. All the time and work...I was just a small fraction in helping her parent.

Mabe giving her enough credit is more what I was leaning towards...If any of you grew up in the 80's, I remember when wearing like 3 pairs of "slouch socks" at one time was the style and my mom yelling at me about doing so much laundry  and I was like "Geez, its JUST socks !!!"...Now I see why (laundry is my pet peeve- LOL)....In general I was a good kid, but I had a big mouth if you know what I mean, like most teenagers do, thinking I "knew" better..Overall I think I turned out pretty darn good and I know she's probably very proud of what i've become, even though I was a PIA kid !!!

I think I know where you are coming from. Becoming a parent changes us in a lot of ways so what you're saying makes a lot of sense. I lost my Mom when I was 27 and I definitely appreciate her and all she did for me growing up more now than I did when I was younger. I do wish all the time that she were here so I could talk to her about things. Not so much from when I was a teenager as we did have opportunity to talk about those things before she died. However, I would like to know things from when I was my DS's age and beyond. I'd love to know if some of the things he does now were things I did as a child.
