Not wanting to be spoon-fed after introducing finger foods
Is this pretty common?
When did you get to a point when you no longer do purees?
My almost 9 month old grabs the spoon with every bite, but of course almost none of it goes in her mouth. And she gets fussy and doesn't want to finish. Yet, when I give her some finger foods (usually soft fruits or veggies, barley or chicken—and of course, puffs), she's happy as can be feeding herself.

Re: Not wanting to be spoon-fed after introducing finger foods
My granddaughter is almost 11 mos. old. She eats alot of food on her own, but my daughter still purees some veggies for her to make sure she's getting enough nutrition. She purees some fruit, but alot of it she just gives her in small pieces. She's not showing a huge interest in using the spoon (although she loves to chew on it)

yep, this was DS exactly!
but when he was teething really bad around 12m, we gave him some purree.. so have some just in case, when hey get picky and sometimes veggie puree is good for them when they don't want to eat steamed vegs

My DS does the same thing! He refuses purees, but he will eat yogurt and pastina from a spoon. I guess it's just a texture thing now.

Thanks all. I just want to make sure that she's eating enough—it seems like less food because she eats it slower. But I guess if she was hungry, she'd let me know!

Yeah, this happened with us too. I just gave them more finger foods and, as they got better at it, let them use the spoon with more independence (I would scoop, and they put it in their mouths.

Re: Not wanting to be spoon-fed after introducing finger foods
I havent been able to spoon feed dd in I don't know how long. Once she started on her own pursed food stopped. I just gave her finger food. Shredded chicken, pieces of pasta and such.
She's 16 months now and is strafing to use a form on her own

Re: Not wanting to be spoon-fed after introducing finger foods
once my DD started refusing the spoon and purees, i just gave her more finger foods. instead of the pureed version, i would give her tiny pieces. she liked this much better and is a great eater.
