Not sure where to post this..balance transfer offer

I have cc debt for the first time in many years...I am looking to transfer it from my Citi card to my Discover Card. Discover is offering 0% for 6 months, with a 5.0% one time fee..it will save me money in the long run, but I am wondering if those that have done balance transfers think 5% is a high one time fee to pay to transfer?

Thanks!!

Yes, I think it is higher than what I have seen. I have been in tune to this since I was looking to do it, and I got ones for a 3% fee. See if you can find one at 3%.

ETA: and, it is also 0% for longer than 6 months

Check Citibank

Thanks! The card with the balance is Citibank...where would I find another card offer for lower? Ugh, I was hoping to just use Discover since that is my only other cc and it has no balance..I guess I need to apply for a different card now?

I LOVE my Discover card! Call them and see if they'll work with you on the fee. Tell them you have another for 3%, but would rather give them the business. I'm sure they'll work with you.

By the way, the way balance transfers work with Discover is they will put the money in your bank account so you can then pay off the CitiBank card.

Re: Not sure where to post this..balance transfer offer

That is a lousy offer. I would never pay anybody 5%.

US Bank has a Linux card that is 12 months 0% BT. 3% fee (CAPPED AT $75).

The cap is very nice. If you BT 20k for instance, 3% is $600. 5% is $1000.

Having a $75 cap means you just pay $75. Chat Icon

Check Chase - I keep on getting offers from them and I believe it's a 3% fee as well.

I think 3% is pretty standard - I would not pay more than that.

I get offers all the time in the mail. Most are 3% fee and all are 0% APR on balance transfers for 1 year. I'd keep looking.

US Bank Offer

Here is the offer. If you are interested, and can apply... apply quickly. US Bank repeatedly takes down the offer and then puts it back up. Strange.

Read the terms and conditions first to make sure the offer is correct (don't hold me to it). Chat Icon

Try it again tomorrow. Or a few hours from now. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.

Re: Not sure where to post this..balance transfer offer

5% is pretty standard. It used to be 3% until the economy went into the crapper.

Depending on how much debt you're talking about, it could be harmless... You could probably get 12 months with 0% interest (and a 5% OT fee) if you open a new credit card. I did this a few times in the past and it didn't affect my credit negatively... but I don't suggest doing it a lot and not close together
