not sure if I should call the dr - WWYD?

DD is 11 1/2 months old and starting yesterday she has a runny nose and sounds all congested. She does not have a fever and just a little while ago she started coughing and then threw up (kinda projectile) but it was mucousy. I am thinking it is from post nasal drip. She is napping now.
Would you call the DR or wait? I know they are not going to give her anything.

not sure if I should call the dr - WWYD?

Is she eating and drinking normally ??? I would wait on calling the Dr unless she gets a fever, is not acting normal (lethargic, not eating/drinking)

Hope she feels better soon!!!

Call if it develops into a fever or not eating. DD had a cold for about a month. I guess she just kept getting new ones but it was clear when she needed to be seen. Started throwing up, fever, not drinking any bottles, and was not herself and so sad. If your DC is acting like themself I'd hold off a couple of days.

My ped says if a cold lasts longer than 2 weeks to come in.

Re: not sure if I should call the dr - WWYD?

I just went through same thing, DS is 8months old it started 7 days ago, running nose, congestion dry then mucusy cough but never a fever, was happy otherwise, gave him Advil 2x a day, but the other night he coughed all night long and woke up yelling holding his ear, still no fever

Took him to PM pediatrics in Syosset yesterday afternoon just in case, he had start of mild ear infection, upper respiratory infection and was put on antibiotics, only had 99.1 fever yesterday,

But I only went when he started pulling on his ear. Otherwise I wouldn't have gone, there's nothing they were going to do for him.

I might go get a humidifier for his room today

I would call the dr. my dd got her first cold and I asked our ped to come in and I was glad I did, she had an ear infection.

If its the cold with so signs of an ear infection or fever, I would do the following:

Saline in nose and clean with the bulb frequently
Hang out in the bathroom with steam
Vicks on chest, back and feet
Humidifier in bedroom
Minimal milk products (causes mucus)
Lots of water

This is what I do every time the kids get a cold. Usually works helps breathe a bit better.

If its a cold that lasts more than 2 weeks, shows green/yellow mucus or they start pulling on ears, I take them to the doctor.

this sort of sounds like how DD is with teething. she ALWAYS throws up right before a new tooth (PED said its related to the increased mucus/saliva). she always gets a runny nose and sometimes runs a fever.
it is a very bad cold season this year though and i always find it hard to determine whats a cold and whats teething. all that being said i wouldnt go to the Ped but if you feel the need you can always call the PED - there is nothing they can do about those symptoms and honestly there are soooo many sick kids at the PED right now id rather not bring her in and risk her getting more sick from other kids (even though our ped has separate sick and well rooms). j

Had this exact scenario last night, DD is 5.

She threw up a ton but it was all mucousy. She was complaining her ear hurt - turns out she had a raging ear infection and the congestion caused her to throw up.

Great advice. Also, limit sugar as it weakens the immune system. Prop her head up during nap and night time to avoid fluid going into the ears.
