Not sure if DS got bit by a tick or a mosquito today?

We went to my cousin's lacross game today in Westchester. Next to the field they had a creek with a bridge to walk over. On the way back from the walk I noticed something black by the bottom of DS's hairline by his neck. I thought it was a mosquito b/c there were some by the bridge and just kind of brushed my hand along the back of his head and never thought about it again. Later on I noticed dried up blood in the same spot and when I looked closer it looks like he was bit by something. There were woods around the bridge but it's not like he was touching the trees or anything...they were just over us. Do you think it was a tick? I'm not sure a tick would just fall off from me brushing his head?

He's been acting fine all day. We just got home and I gave him a bath and washed his head and put some peroxide on the spot. It looks like something bit him and there it is alittle red around it.

Even if it was a tick, it doesn't sound like it was embedded, I've had ticks embedded in me and my dad had to dig it out with tweezers.

I am sure he is fineChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I used to get ticks alot too when I was younger. My mom told me the ped. told her they had to be on you for at about 24 hours and be engorged to transmit anything like lyme disease...I dont know if that is still what the peds say today.

I'm pretty sure its the same, and even if it was a dog tick, that really would be no big deal...

It was probably just a dumb mosquito Chat Icon

That's what my ped told me last year after we found ticks on the kids in Montauk.
