Not Sleeping Well
I'm having a lot of trouble sleeping. I can't seem to get comfortable. I'm a stomach sleeper but have been alternating between laying on my back and both sides. I can only be in each position for so long before I get uncomfortable and need to switch. I asked my dr at my last appt and just got some generic advice to take a shower before bed, drink warm milk, lavender satchet by my bed.
Anyone having/had the same issue and if so, what are you doing to get some sleep?!

Yes, me... insane trouble getting comfortable. back frequently hurts a little but then so do my boobs. lots of repositioning and propping pillows.

Re: Not Sleeping Well
I am a tummy sleeper as well and up until last week I was still able to sleep on my belly! I am now forced to sleep on my side as I get too much pressure on my belly. I can't sleep very soundly on my side though, my shoulder started to hurt, I get super uncomfortable and my puppy likes to sleep right up against my back giving me no room to roll around. Sleeping on my back worked for a while too but unfortunately they say that during the second trimester it is not advised to sleep that way, so I'm stuck on my side!! If you find a comfortable side position PLEASE let me know!!! I'm dying here too!!!

Re: Not Sleeping Well
I got a snoogle for xmas, and I've been having the best sleep lately. I'm a stomach sleeper as well and have found that propping myself on the snoogle lets me sleep partially on my belly.
I'm not sure how far along you are, but towards the end you'll have a rougher time sleeping bc your body is getting ready for the baby to keep you up at all hours of the night.
Hope you get some sleep soon!

Re: Not Sleeping Well
Sleep is horrendous. I go from side to side all night long, but really do not get comfortable, no matter what pillow I use. Just so much pressure on my hips and shoulders. I can't breathe when I sleep on my back..I am just a very sleep lady these days..and CRANKY

Re: Not Sleeping Well
how far along are you? at 37w, i still sleep on my stomach (modified) with one leg bent so I roll a bit to my side.
sleep however you are comfortbale. you won't hurt the baby.
ETA - after early/mid 20 weeks, you are not supposed to lay on your back due to artery compression! safer to belly/side sleep at that point

I did this last night, and it worked for a little while, not as much pressure on my baby but better position for my shoulder!

Not Sleeping Well
I'm 37 weeks and I'm still basically sleeping on my stomach! I sleep with my leg thrown over a body pillow so that I'm mostly on my stomach, but partially propped up. Try doing something like that -- maybe it will help!

Not Sleeping Well
Comfortable sleep? What is that?
Early on my boobs killed me so I wore either a tank with support built in or a sports bra to bed. Now I am just enormous and if I sleep on my back I can't breath and my doctor said not to sleep on my right side (pressure on a major artery). So I "sleep" on my left side and wake up feeling like I have the hips of a 90 year old. For a while I was sleeping propped up on some pillow but I find that I wake up falt on my back. Only 6 weeks to go though!

Re: Not Sleeping Well
My nights are usually very restless. My ribs feel like they are killing me sleeping on my side or the baby moves so much she keeps me awake. I do use a pillow and it helps, but it varies from night to night. If I turn to the other side, I actualy have to sit up to turn. 7 weeks left!!

I'm only 11 weeks. If I'm this uncomfortable early on I can't imagine what later will be like.
I've never heard of the artery compression issue if sleeping on your back. Thanks for the heads up. I've heard from other women not to sleep on your stomach but maybe that was due to their own discomfort.

At 11w you can still sleep on your stomach. It's when you're around 25w that you need to avoid sleeping on your stomach. And eventually towards the end, it will just be impossible.
I read that it takes about 2 weeks to acclimate to a new sleeping position, so you have plenty of time still. I used to be a stomach sleeper, but now I'm on my back or sides...if I can sleep at all! When you're further along, you should get a body pillow that will help you sleep more comfortably. But again, at 11w, you really can still sleep on your stomach.
