normal for a cold to not go away in 6 month old?
My son has had rattling in his chest for what seems like months. Probably since he was 3 months old. He's now 6 1/2 months old.
Either he's getting back to back colds or it's just one cold that he can't kick. The ped said it's normal to take a while for them to get it out, especially reflux babies.
But he literally has had rattling in his chest for months. He seems fine sometimes and then he gets a cold (runny nose and all), then he's fine and then another cold. But even when he's fine, his chest still rattles.
is this normal? she didn't seem concerned about pneumonia or anything. Plus i'm sure at this point, if he did have it, he would have spiked a fever or something.

Re: normal for a cold to not go away in 6 month old?
My son had a similar issue at that age... just had an on and off cold that wouldn't go away. We started thinking it might be allergy related. So, one of our docs told us to try 24hr Children's Zyrtec (he takes 1/4 tsp each night). The "colds", thank God, were nipped in the bud!
We just started giving it to him again because he kept itching his nose like crazy and it helped THAT! The doc said it's harmless, so we can give it to him daily. Yay, Zyrtec!
Ask your doc about it! Good luck!!

is he sensitive to milk? only asking b.c that was my DS from like 13m to 18m when i finally had him tested and it showed he had a significant diary allergy. it was a complete surprise-never though a food woul cause constant cold symptoms. however, it wasn't that he really had rattling in his chest more that he had a constant runny nose.

DD had similar issue. We also suspected allergy (even though everything on the Internet says infants don't have allergies). One dose of children's Claritin per day and she hasn't been sick since!

The only thing i'm concerned about with that is zyrtec is known to cause constipation in kids so i'm afraid to try it since we already have that problem.
has your son become constipated at all from it?

Has he ever had a swallow study? Do you have any reason to believe he may be aspirating (liquid "going down the wrong way") into his lungs? That can cause chronic congestion and respiratory issues.

no he hasn't ever had one done.
I have no idea to be honest. My husband seems to think it's worse once he eats, but you can still hear/feel it other times as well.
so how would we find out about that?

Never knew that! Actually, my son does have constant constipation, but it started before he regularly took the Zyrtec. He has to have pureed prunes and prune juice everyday. I'll check with my doc...
