Non-religious christening gift?
We're invited to a co-worker's christening for her daughter this weekend. I've become good friends with her, and I know she's not religious at all and really only doing it out of pressure from her IL's. So what in the world do I give as a gift? What is the amount that people usually spend on a christening gift?

Re: Non-religious christening gift?
i would say a savings bond, and if youre a coworker and not family, or friends outside of work, i would say to maybe just spend 50 and youll get 100 dollar savings bond..if youre attending a party, and its more than just you attending, maybe do 75 to make it 150 dollars..(people still tend to always want to make some money back)
i think though, above anything else, give what you can afford.. but yes, money would be appropriate..
eta: sorry i didnt read your post clearly, since you are good friends, and your dh is attending, i would say between 150-200 dollar savings bond, which would leave you spending 75-100 bux..

Re: Non-religious christening gift?
Personally, I hate the savings bonds. I would rather have the money and put it in an account for DS.
To answer your question, I would say the average money gift for our son was about $50.00. Close family and a few generous people gave more, but that was about what most people gave. He also got some gifts - a huge gund teddy bear, a lenox keepsake holder for first tooth, first curl, etc. and a few other things. It really is the thought that counts and for me any gift was appreciated.

That's what I would suggest. Either $50, or a keepsake type of gift.
