NO MORE CARPET...
How bad is it that I would like to rip up all the carpeting and put down wood floors IN EVERY ROOM

We just did it in our LR & DR and what a relief - esp with wall to wall carpeting under a table where 2 small kids eat (and a light color nonetheless). I hated that frickin carpet. We're still in a mess and they arent refinished yet but I already love the difference. I might go onto the bedrooms next LOL
Do you know if you have hardwoods under your carpet or do you have to lay it?

Our house has either tile (baths and kitchen) or wood in almost every room. The only two rooms that had carpeting were the den and livingroom (they are on a concrete slab as we have a half basement). I love it. I feel like the house is so much cleaner.
We even put oak flooring in the livingroom to match the rest of the house. There was new carpeting in the den when we moved in.
I was converted to all wood flooring from living in DH's old house.

I should mention that I live in Levittown and we are on a slab. So it would be the LAMINATE wood floor. We did it in the kitchen and LOVE it. I so want to do it in every room. We Have Tile in front of the door and then WHITE carpet... (old homeowners not my choice) right next to the door. WELL the floor is so slippery that even with a mat in front of the door... when you come in you almost break your face. So everyone jumps from the tile to the carpet to dry their feet and now the carpet looks so NASTY. Plus with the dog... UGH I hate it.

Our livingrom is on a slab and we put in real oak hardwood to match the rest of the house. Not everyone will install it but our contractor put in a very good base (moisture barrier and plywood).
They should have put shower tile floor down in your entry. It looks the same as other tile flooring but it has a rough surface so it is skid proof. They make it to match bathroom tiles for walk in Roman showers without the traditional fiberglass base.

we have laminate or wood or tile in every room except our office(the carpet was new berber & we only painted that room) and our basement media room has carpet. All other rooms including the kids' rooms are solid flooring. We have area rugs around, but I love not having wall to wall.

Its the first thing we did when we moved in - ripped out the carpet and had hardwood floors underneath we refinshed. I love it! I'm not a fan of carpet at all....

Our entire house is oak hardwood floors except the kitchen is natural slate and the bathroom is marble.
