No-go

Well, it looks like I'm about to ovulate, according to my RE, but the bloodwork and numbers are so whacky that she doesn't want me to waste the $600 out of pocket to try for an IUI.

I guess it makes sense - it's not like we have money to waste these days. But, all the same, I'm so disappointed, and really fearful. How many wasted months is it going to take to get this right? What if I simply don't respond well to Clomid, then what?

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm sorry- I know how frustrating it is. I went 3 rounds of clomid and never responded. After clomid you move to injectibles, which I promise you are not 1/2 as bad as they sound... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My RE said that's the approach she's leaning towards. You don't understand. I'm terrified, just terrified of needles Chat Icon

I do have to tell you, I used to be TERRIFIED of needles. I was so terrified of going for bloodwork I would just skip it if I could. But some how, I've made it through 2 rounds of IVF and now, I'm no longer afraid. I think knowing that I wanted a baby so bad I just tried to put aside my fear. Honestly, the anticipation of the needles is worse than when you are actually going through it.

I PROMISE you that you won't even feel the needles if that's the route you decide to go. Getting blood drawn is more painful than the injections!

Keep us posted on your plan...

Re: No-go

I used to be TERRIFIED of needles. Once, when I was 16, my dr. had to literally chase me around the room with a tetanus shot!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Since I've been going through IF, I've become a lot more accustomed to them. I have blood drawn about 5 times per month, so it's kinda becoming "old hat" now. I just did my first trigger shot this month, which was so much better than I made it out to be in my mind!

Stay strong!!! Chat Icon

Thanks ladies Chat Icon

I don't know yet what the next step is, but my RE said this is what she's leaning towards but we won't discuss it until I get AF.

You all don't understand - it was so bad at one point that I would pass out and start convulsing becuase I had worked myself up into such a frenzy of panic. My doctor wouldn't draw blood - he freaked out so much from my response that he required I get blood drawn at the hospital! Chat Icon

Concededly, I'm getting better, but I'm still SO queasy with it.

I know I'm going to regret asking, but where is the injection site? Does DH need "training" on how to do it?

Headoverheels- yeah, I'm going to still try with mucinex and preseed, but considering that didn't work for the 6 months we were trying with it, I don't have much hope.

Re: No-go

Needles are short and they go in either your stomach or thigh (where the fat is.....LOL). You can do them yourself. I worked myself into a crazy frenzy before I did the first one. Then I finally got the guts up and stuck it in (started with thigh because it's an area used to getting scratches and beat up). I didn't even feel it. I'm serious, it's very easy. I found trying to swallow the chalky clomid to be worse than doing injections.

And you will be taught by your RE office how to do the injections. They don't just give them to you and say good luck. Maybe in your case it would be a good idea that your DH help you with them.

Keep that end goal in sight and you will find you can do anything.

Re: No-go

Beth, what was your dosage, 50? You can try upping the dose or you may be able to try Femara before moving to injects.

I can say this- you get used to the needles. DH is deathly afraid of them and while he still hates having blood drawn, he can now tolerate it.Chat Icon

I am TERRIFIED of needles as well. Before starting my IF journey I couldn't be in the same room as anyone getting a needle or giving a needle... and I would cry hysterically and get MAJOR anxiety if I knew I had to get one...

It's hard to explain- but if you ice the area first, after the first one or 2, it'll be ok. You'll get past the fear of THESe needles... they're literally like a pin they're so small. We're hear for you! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, but the problem is that, as my RE said, she's never seen someone who has no problem ovulating on their own, react this way to the Clomid. I don't want to waste another month trying with a different dosage if it will be another bust, but I suppose I'll just have to wait to discuss this with my RE when AF rears her ugly, nasty ol' beatup head...

Beth - I TOTALLY understand. I can tell you story after story about how bad I was with anything medical related. I once passed out walking from the car to the doctors office. It was bad. I swear up and down to you that it is not bad at all, and I don't even feel it! I told my husband 6 months ago when we started the IUI's that I would not go any further than the IUI's because I could not do the at home injections required of IVF. Guess what... totally doable! IF you do get to the point where you move to injectibles, (and I hope you don't), but if you do. Feel free to FM me anytime because I really do get it.

We had to go to a class prior to starting the injections. My DH was nervous but he has been doing a great job!
