No BH yet?
So, I'm 28w1 day. From what I've read here and elsewhere Braxton Hicks usually start around 24-26 weeks.
I haven't noticed a single one yet. How normal is that?
My sister (who is pg with #3) said not to worry about it. They aren't painful and I am probably having them just not knowing what it is.
The midwife, to date, hasn't asked if I've had any so I'm assuming it's not too big of a deal.
But anyone else in the same boat as me?

Re: No BH yet?
You are probably having them and don't feel them. Your uteris starts contracting slightly during your first trimester, we just can't feel it. Most women become aware of them in the late 20's, early 30's but not everyone. I wouldn't worry at all!

Re: No BH yet?
I am 31 weeks and just experienced my first BH this week. At least, I think it was. It wasn't a big deal at all.
Anyone remember that Friends episode?
"Something called Braxton Hicks contractions." When Ross hears this, he is very relieved and he rolls his eyes. He says, "Oh! Thank God! That's no big deal! Most women can't even FEEL them." Rachel gets mad at Ross. "OK, no uterus, no opinion!"

Re: No BH yet?
with my first pregnancy, I didn't get them until the last few weeks. With this one, they started early.
don't worry about - be grateful!

Re: No BH yet?
I don't think I ever really had them and the baby's fine. I consider it a blessing... I get some tightness but nothing painful and that didn't start until 30 something weeks.

Re: No BH yet?
this might sound silly, but do you think BH's have anything to do with periods prior pregnancy? Like maybe people who had awful periods experience harsher BH's than someone who generally has mild periods??
Makes me wonder, b/c my period cramps get SOOO bad that I go numb down my left leg and get excruciating pain.. and the episode I had of BH last weekend that lasted 2 hours were pretty uncomfortable.. not as painful as period cramps.. but not very fun either.. hmm..who knows! Maybe you wont ever have BH's! I think the less we can go through prior to pregnancy, the better!

Re: No BH yet?
Ummm.....I always had pretty bad menstrual cramps. And menstrual cramps aren't caused by your uterus contracting they are caused by the vaginal wall shedding.
So I'm not sure how one thing would have something to do with the other...well, other than pain tolerance maybe?

Re: No BH yet?
idk..i was just thinkin "uterus" stuff I guess...cause when you have a period your muscles in your uterus do contract. I guess I put too much thought into this! One probably doesnt have anything to with the other, who knows!

Re: No BH yet?
I'm a couple of days shy of being 29 weeks too and I haven't felt anything I would describe as BH contractions.
But I have noticed the past couple of weeks that my stomach will be much harder sometimes than others...maybe that's the uterus contracting and we can't feel it yet? I don't know...

Re: No BH yet?
I never had a braxton-hicks contraction with my DS. Now, with this pregnancy (DD) I've been having them on and off for several months...and they are not supposed to be painful, but mine are definitely painful.
