no bassinet??

is anyone not using a bassinet or keeping DC in their room? I plan on putting DD in her crib the first night...this way she doesnt have to adjust to sleeping with us than on her own. Her room is next door so its not like its to far away and i have a video monitor..what are your thoughts?

Re: no bassinet??

That was my thought at first. I did not see the need for one. DH wanted a bassinet. Man, am I glad I agreed.

I had a c-section and nursed DS. I was glad I did not have to get up and walk to his room every 2 hours. I could check on him.

Re: no bassinet??

We used the bassinet for a couple days and didnt like having the baby in the room with us so we put her in the crib right away. She made too many noises in her sleep and we jumped any every one of them! Her bedroom is right next to ours, so we can hear her. I nursed for the first two weeks, but I just did it in the glider in her room so I didnt have to disturb my husband.

Re: no bassinet??

my MIL suggested putting the baby right in her/his crib, but I think I am going to be too paranoid the first couple of months and constantly need to check on the baby. Its so much easier with the bassinet right up against my bed

Re: no bassinet??

I was going to put right into crib, but my sis had a mini co-sleeper that she gave me, so figured since i was bfing i would use that in dh and i bedroom.

Re: no bassinet??

We decided on a porter crib so that it would be easier to nurse at night for the first few weeks.

Re: no bassinet??

I plan to use the bassinet part of the PNP, which we will keep in our room initially. If I find that she (and we) do better with her in the crib, then that is where she will go. I didn't want to invest in a bassinet when I could use the PNP and when I didn't know if it would work best since I hope to breastfeed and would be disturbing DH constantly.

Re: no bassinet??

I'm hoping to put DS in the crib in the nursery the first night - but he'll be the boss....Our thoughts are that if he can begin sleeping in his own crib in his own room from the beginning, that's less adjustment later.
We're hopeful this will work....
ETA - despite these thoughts, we registered for a bassinet anyway - just in case!

Re: no bassinet??

I'm not using a bassinet. And hope to have DC in crib starting day one. But in case that doesn't work out I do have a pack n play with the bassinet on top if needed.

Re: no bassinet??

With DD#1 we put the bassinet in her room for the first couple of days and then right to the cib. With Baby #2 I think I am just going straight tothe crib. I used the bassinet in the living room though so she could relax/sleep while I was in there.

Re: no bassinet??

Same as you. We will be using the crib from day 1 and have a video monitor. The room is also right next to ours.
