NJ Disability-Extra Bonding time?

Although I live on LI I work in NJ and a friend of mine mentioned that NJ has a state law regarding maternity leave. She told me that on top of the 12 weeks for FMLA you can get 6 weeks of "bonding time".

She said that the extra six weeks are paid by the state and not the disability carrier and most likely not full pay.

Has anyone heard of this? I am asking my HR person today but I don't expect an answer today.

Yes, I live and worked in NJ. I didn't take advantage of it after DD was born because it didn't go into effect until the day I returned from maternity leave.

With DS, I did take it. It's not much money, but it was something. I eventually didn't go back to work anyway.

But, because it's still so new, alot of HR folks are not familiar with it.

I do know that your company has to "pay into it" for you to be able to take advantage of it. I'm also not sure if you live in NY if you would be eligible.

Yes, NJ state offers disablility as well. My job mentioned this to me....go to www.nj.gov/labor and it will give you all the information about the program.

Not sure, I live in NY and work in NJ but I dont know what happens if you live and work in NJ.

An assitant in HR advised me that I am eligible because I work in NJ. If your employer is in NJ and pays into this fund, you become eligible.

I will get more details next week and I will post more info as I get it.
