Nikolaus William's Birth Day
It's a boy!
Born 12/04/2009, 6:47pm, 6lbs, 7oz 19.5 inches long..We named him Nikolaus William. I know Jess updated you, but here quickly are the details!
Tuesday, 12/1 at 1am I went up to L&D with bad contractions 5 minutes apart. Once we got there, they stopped completely and I was only 1cm. My induction was already scheduled for 12/11 if I hadn't delivered before then because they feared a big baby. As I was getting discharged, my dr asked if I was willing to go for an amnio for lung maturity and if all was ok, she would induce sooner.
On Tuesday, I went for the amnio (which I was so afraid of and it didn't hurt one bit!!!). I was at Madonna for 4 hours because of a low heart rate, it would not go above 130 and kept plummeting to 110.The alarms were constantly going off.
Dr.called Wednesday and scheduled the induction for Friday 7am. I went to my regular appt that night and I was only 1.5cm.
Friday at 7am, I get to the hospital. Cervadil at 10am. 10, 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4pm... No pain what so ever. I was just watching tv, playing on FB and talking on the phone the entire day. However, again, they were having trouble with the babies heartrate not accelerating. Baby was not moving so they gave me dextrose in my iv. Heartrate sped up, but the baby was still planted firmly on my right side by my ribcage.
She cheeks my cervix at 4. still only 1.5cm. Contractions were about 5 minutes apart and starting to hurt so I asked for Stadol. Dr. Guzman saw that I was starting to get nervous with the slow progression and told me that one way or another, this child was coming out and promised she would not let me leave without this baby.
4-4.30, sh breaks my water, plants the internal monitors, gives me Stadol and starts the pitocin. By 6, I am 7cm and I get my epidural started. Well it didn't' work... I was feeling everything, no change. I went from 7 to 10 within minutes, and in three pushes, Nikolaus is out.
Turns out the baby had the cord wrapped around his neck twice and he was pretty much stuck on my side for weeks. Thank God, that is all I can say... I can't even imagine what I would do if something happened.
He is pink and perfect, but he will need surgery to remove a skin tag on his ear. It is almost 2cm, but it needs to be done by a plastic surgeon.
