NIKE+ IPOD USERS

Do you feel the info is accurate? I used map my run to set up a course for me to run outside and my NIKE+ info was pretty accurate for that .. But this a.m. I used it on the treadmill and it was off by like .3 miles. Anyone else have this discrepancy?

accurate is subjective - treadmills sometimes need to be calibrated too!

I found that my Nike+ was more accurate the faster I was to race pace. 5Ks were usually spot on (maybe .01-.05 off- but that's the nature of a race - if you don't run tangents you will run more than 3.1).

tangents are the reason that mapmyrun is usually off. You can't get the exact path that you take.

When I have used nike+ with my garmin, I usually find that nike is off by .04-.05 a mile. It's not a big deal for a run, but It showed that I ran over 27 miles for a marathon (26.2 * .04 = 1+ mile)

take it with a grain of salt. Honestly, the .3 isn't going to affect you too much - you still did the time.

Re: NIKE+ IPOD USERS

I agree with Erica. It is more accurate the faster I run. It took me a while to get the calibration right in the beginning. When you calibrated it, how fast did you run? The first calibration I jogged and it was WAY off when I ran on the treadmill. I recalibrated it while running very fast and it is very accurate now. You also have to remember that treadmills aren't always 100%accurate. My treadmill is old and I bought it used. I think it got damaged in our move because sometimes I have it on 2 miles per hour and I am sprinting similar to a 6 mph pace. Chat Icon

Another thing I recently noticed... I did a 20 minute HIIT workout on the treadmill. I one minute intervals of running at 7-7.5 mph and jogging at 3.5 mph. My nike+ graph shows a fairly smooth line with the pace being the average of these two intervals. It was the first time I used Nike + on an interval workout and was pretty disappointed.

I still love it to keep track of my workouts though, and love the powersong feature.

I slipped on some ice during a run and fell right on my bottom. When I got home, I was actually excited to see the graph and was disappointed when it didn't show the spike down for my fall Chat Icon LOL

I do love looking at the graphs on slowgeek.

Re: NIKE+ IPOD USERS

To calibrate, do it on a track so you know the distance is accurate. (One lap is 1/4 mile or 400 meters, 2 laps is 1/2 mile or 800 meters, 3 laps is 3/4 mile or 1200 meters, 4 laps is 1 mile or 1600 meters).

On your ipod to to Nike+ > Settings > Sensor > Calibrate > choose walking or running pace, and then select your distance and begin your calibration. Definitely do both walking and running. Run fast when you do the running part.

You can program your powersong in Settings. Pick your favorite running song that really gets you going.
When your running hold down the center button (on the nano) and the powersong comes on. Its a lot easier and quicker than having to scroll thru and find that song while runniing. I put the powersong on when I'm tired and feel like stopping or my pace is slowing down.
