night #2 with no pacifier

today wasnt too bad i have to say. she went down at 11pm and got up at 730am no interruptions. she asked for the pacifier once in the morning on the way to playgroup (she used to use it in the car) and when it was nap time. i reminded her that she threw it out and she said ok. it took 30 minutes to get her down for a nap usually she passes out. i had to pat her bottom and rub her back for 5 minutes to soothe her. tonight i put her in the crib for 9pm she screamed mama for 15-20 minutes and cried. i went in several times to rub her back and tell her to go to sleep. i noticed she was making a sucking motion with her mouth as if she was imitating a pacifier. she finally went down for 930. not too bad for the second night.

dh told me im a bad mommy for doing this to her. what does he know.

Re: night #2 with no pacifier

she is 18 months old as of 2 weeks ago. shes handling it pretty well i have to say. its an attachment to them and when you take something away they can be territorial. my doctor told me to get rid of the pacifier and bottle at 1 year old but i didnt listen. now im kicking myself

I want to get rid of the binky. I tell sara only in the crib or the car now so thats a start. I want to get rid of it completely though. She says bye bye to it in the morning . When I asked her if I should get rid of it she shook her head no Chat Icon

Re: night #2 with no pacifier

my pediatrician said to be careful of poking a hole beucase it could compromise the plastic and pose a choking hazard. i didnt want to take the chance. dont know if their is any validity to that its a small whole but just decided why delay the inevitable.

Re: night #2 with no pacifier

I would rather cut the entire nopple off and then hand it to her , I really think I need it more than her - I offer it to her as soon as she is ready for bed. I just have to get rid of them. I did it for my son I can do it for her too.

COrinne you are doing great Chat Icon

Great job Corinne! I say you only have 2 days more before she's completely forgotten about it.

It's so much easier to do when they're younger.

As for the bad mother comment, tell him it's an oral fixation that you're trying to break her of. Chat Icon
