NICU-Scared to visit
Although I am doing better, I just had a visit from the neonatologist. Baby is doing fine in thier eyes BUT as a precaution they had to counsel me. I may be getting a series of steriods-they are discussing. Anywho Dh and I are getting a tour of NICU tonight. I just want to prepare myself but I have this big lump in my throat.

Re: NICU-Scared to visit
listen..I can't even begin to imagine. I can only say--I was scared when my son was in I.C.U when he was born and scared when the twins were coming.. You have done so amazing so far and are so strong! They have to tell u...but it isn't written in stone. Maybe it sounds corny but I truly feel if God takes u to it He can get you through it. U will do great on the tour and everything else, you already have!!!!!!! U will be in my prayers every day!

Re: NICU-Scared to visit
Three weeks ago I toured the NICU at Columbia and met with the ped surg. I will be honest. It was terrifiying to think that my baby will at a minimum be in the NICU for a few hours to a few weeks and might need surgery.
I will say we met with a neonatologist who sat down and she was very comforting - she took us around the NICU and explained how everything ran, and what would be done to the baby. Yes it was scary BUT DH and I actually felt a little bit better after we did it. We felt that it was not an unknown anymore and yes we are not happy she will spending any time there but we are still hopeful she will go there for a few hours while they evaluate her and they will find nothing and release her to the nursery.
I am around if you want to FM me to talk. After seeing and speaking with the doctors you will see that it is not as scary and you will feel a lot more informed.

Re: NICU-Scared to visit
Speaking from experience...its not so bad...
The round of steroids or just shots given, I believe, 3x over a day and a half..
The NICU tour was strangely comforting..We all kind of fear the unknown and when we get to see what we might be facing it seems to help.

Re: NICU-Scared to visit
Both my niece and nephew were in NICU for a while after their premature births. It was really a nice place. The nurses are so friendly and the babies are so cute. I hope you find comfort in your NICU!
