nfl game... what should i know
saturday is SO's birthday.
i was planning a weekend getaway and things went sideways. i had to share my surprise with SO once things fell apart.
we were talking about what else we might do to celebrate. SO told me this morning that he wants to go to a Raiders' game. they are playing the San Diego Chargers on sunday. we'll be ording the tickets from nfl ticket exchange as soon as he gets out of the shower.
i've never been to an nfl game... the only football games i ever went to was back in high school and i spent most of the time hanging out with friends. what do i need to know before going to my first football game?

have fun! not sure what you would need to know to watch a game - other than directions to the stadium!

I think it's hard to answer bc I would think a game here (in met life stadium) is different from a game out west

Not much I can think of other than check the stadium's bag policy.
They're pretty strict at Giants stadium. You can only bring in a small wristlet or put everything in a clear bag.
Have fun. Raiders fans are pretty intense!!

If he's really into football maybe you could offer to wait on the lines for snacks and stuff that way he doesn't miss the game
Wear black!
15 minutes of football in real time is an eternity. I'd always get so excited in the fourth quarter and think "yess only 15 more minutes" then I'd look at the time and see that it was only 3:02. Knowing that 1:00 games end at 4:00 was always so irking. Then they'd go into overtime lol

Wear a jersey if you have one.
Are you tailgating before? I don't know what it's like out there but here the traffic getting out afterwards is insane so we always tailgate again afterwards for about an hour to let the traffic subside.

read the NFL bag policy, the league is very strict as to what you can/can not bring. Do not get up in front of people during a live play. wait for a whistle. This is one of my biggest peeves during a sporting event & you will piss off a lot of people if you do that. Watch the weather and check your seat location to find out if you are in the sun or shade because that will determine how you should dress. If you tailgate, definitely tailgate after or just hang around the stadium after the game for a bit. It will save you from sitting in miserable traffic. I'd also read up on a few rules if you don't know anything about the sport, it will make it way more enjoyable for you.

YESSSSSS! we had an issue in Tampa. We had to put up a fight about them letting us in. It was so insane. Clear bag or very small or no bag.

Football time = approx. 3x reg. time.
Food & drinks at the stadium a will probably be very expensive (like at most events/attractions)-so just be prepared for that.
The bag tip is a good one! I probably wouldn't have thought of that.

OMG... the bag! i ALWAYS have knitting with me lol i will make sure to leave that behind... you know, because you have to watch out for crazy sock knitters, like me.
