What with you do/request for your next pregnancy ?

Any tests/sonograms you will demand after a miscarriage ?

I have no clue what preemptive strikes I will take or if it is even possible.

Just looking for any advise/ideas.....

Re: Next steps

Please let me preface this by saying that I am not a doctor and all of this is just from my own research and experience and opinons:

I think it depends on the circumstances of the miscarraige. If it had something to do with an incompitent cervix, or low progesterone, or something that can be changed/helped....then demand to do all the necessary testing and procedures associated with it.

You can also go to a fertility specialist for genetic testing, since there is a test they can take for a certain genetic disorder (forget what its called) that if both partners are carriers, it results in a lot of multiple miscarraiges....although this is VERY RARE.

However, if it were just a random miscarraige, that is really something that is just a matter of higher forces. As I said in a previous post.....the division process and process associated with creating an embryo are so complex.....a gazillion things need to go right for it to happen. THe first few weeks/months are critical, and only time can tell if it the miracle happened. There is nothing that even medical science can do to ensure that the miracle occurs.

Surely, if you choose, you can have regular blood tests to see if your progesterone and HCG is rising correctly, which often indicates ahead of time, and can predict the outcome. However, that is not going to change anything. And, it can drive you NUTS. If the numbers aren't perfect, it will make you crazy. I learned that myself........I don't recommend it.

Re: Next steps

I do not know the circumstances of which you had a miscarriage. But I will tell everyone that has had a miscarriage, to insist on having a blood test to test to see if you are positive for MTHFR Factor 5...it's a simple blood test....if you have it, it can cause blood clots which can lead to miscarraige.

It is very simple to treat, you take baby aspirin, extra folic acid (combo with b12 & b6), and once there is a heartbeat seen, you take lovenox or some other kind of blood thinner.

After my miscarriage last October, my RE sent me for this test, turns out I am heterozygous for it, meaning it can happen, but possibly not. (homozygous is more serious.) I was furious with my RE that he waited until after the miscarriage to test me for this, when I had such extensive testing when I first started going to him. He says it is not protocol to test for this until you have a miscarriage1!! Chat Icon to say the least, I was Chat Icon . A simple blood test could have possibly saved me from having a miscarriage last year.

just want to clarify here. MTHFR and Factor V(5) Lieden are two separate clotting issues. They will usually give you the recurrent pregnancy loss panel which includes these tests and others. Another test you can get done is karytyping which is genetic testing for you and your husband.Chat Icon

Re: Next steps

Thanks everyone for this advise, I will be writing down these tests for the future.

I just had a check up and he told me that If I test positive to call him right away and they will test my HCG & progestone. Then take things from there.

I feel better already knowing what to do next & other possible tests to request.

Thanks again!!
