Newport, RI and surrounding areas....
This is NOT travel related...Wedding related really...
My cousin is getting married in Newport next July. We just got the save the date and all the places in Newport are really pricey and some require 2-3 night minimums as well. Are there any surrounding areas that are close by but cheaper?

Portsmouth and Bristol have nice B&B's and there's a new hotel in Bristol, right on the water.
Here's the link for Bristol Harbor Inn.

Re: Newport, RI and surrounding areas....
we stayed at the howard johnson for a wedding - we only had to stay one night and it was labor day weekend - was about $120 - i think - i think it is in portsmouth only about 15 minutes from the mansions mattering on traffic

Beth, we stayed in the next town over, I think it is called Middletown. It's just a five minute drive into Newport, where you can park at a lot the tourist center, and then walk to everything.

Re: Newport, RI and surrounding areas....
We actually prefer to stay in Westerly. It's a small little beach town. There aren't really any "nice" hotels, it's all motels. But they're very reasonable and most are within walking distance to the beach. We stay at the Tradewinds. It's under $100 a night and I don't believe they have a nightly minimum.

That is great! I'll check that out too. I feel so much better knowing I won't have to pay $350 a night.

Middletown has all the budget places I end up at, like Courtyard by Marriot & Holiday Inn Express. We went during the Jazz festival & everything was booked or crazy expensive.
Good luck-have fun!

That's definitely more my style...I am excited; I've never been to Newport and the wedding is at one of the mansions.

I went to college in Bristol and just recently stayed here..it is very nice and we loved it!! It's also in the town of Bristol, which is really cute..has many bars, shops, etc..and only 20 minutes from Newport...Have fun!!
