We are planning mini trip to Newport in April. I have always wanted to go tour the mansions there. Any recs on hotels, restaurants, must see places, etc. in the area?

TIA!!

Re: Newport RI

We stayed at the Beech Tree Inn a few years ago. It was a cute Bed and Breakfast. The rooms were clean and the owners very friendly. We had a jacuzzi in the room too which was nice. I can't remember any of the restaurants we went to though--sorry.

Re: Newport RI

DH and I just went there this past summer.

We stayed at the Hyatt on Goat Island. It was really nice!

We did the mansion tours, a winery, and basically just walked around the town.

Restaurants:

Zelda's and the Mooring were really good!!!

We also went to the Black Pearl which was recommended by a lot of people but honestly wasn't so good

We went to Newport this past June with friends and had such a great time! We stayed at a very reasonable B&B called The Attwater Villa, nothing fancy but it was clean and the most reasonable place we saw.

We bought the mansion tour package (I think you could choose 4 or 5) but the 3 you must see are The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House. There are also wineries nearby and you can take a sunset sail around the harbor. The oldest synagogue in the Unites Stated is there and they have a short tour if its something your interested in.

As for food, my husband was in lobster roll heaven, he had one for lunch every day so he could see who had teh best one Chat Icon
Places I would recommend:
1) Brick Alley Pub-we went here for lunch, this was DH's vote for best lobster roll. I dont eat lobster but their menu is huge and everything was delicious
2) The Black Pearl- I know this place gets mixed reviews but I really liked sitting outside on the dock for lunch and my burger was delish. Again, DH really liked the lobster roll and clam chowder (they are famous for it), this was his #2 lobster roll pick.
3) The Mooring- dinner was really yummy
4) Scales and Shells- this was everyone's favorite dinner place, everything was fresh and delicious, if you like seafood this is def the place for you!
5) go to Kilwins for ice cream and get a homemade cone, we went here much too often!

Enjoy!

ETA: I cant beleive I forgot, An absolute MUST: take the drive down Ocean road and go to the Castle Hill Inn for a drink at their outdoor bar. Its absolutely GORGEOUS and was so relaxing. We got drinks and some light food/apps and sat in the adirondack chiars on the lawn and just relaxed, it was probably my favorite thing we did in Newport

as pp mentioned Scales and Shells is a great resturant! My mom and I went to Newport last year just to go back there. The food is so fresh!
If you go, check out the website before you go, I believe they dont take credit cards. http://www.scalesandshells.com/info (I have it bookmarked on my computer :) )

Re: Newport RI

22 Bowen is an awesome steak/seafood restaurant that we loved when we went there.
