Newborn sleep schedule...
My newborn eats about every 3 hours then falls right to sleep (most of the time). My question is:
Should I start counting the 3 hours once he falls asleep or the time I begin feeding him? It could take up to an hour sometimes to feed him & then put him to sleep, so that means if I feed him @3 & he falls aleep by 4, should I feed him again at 6 or 7?
Please let me know if this makes no sense!! I'll try to explain better.
Thanks

Re: Newborn sleep schedule...
My advice is to not worry about the time, just feed him when he wakes and wants to be fed. It makes life much easier when you feed on demand. At least, in my experience.

Yeah... I'm starting to believe this as well. I'll wait until the little guy wakes up this morning before I feed him again. This schedule thing will drive me bananas!

Re: Newborn sleep schedule...
It's from the start of the feeding - so if he starts his feeding at 3, if the next feeding is 3 hours later, it would be at 6.
But like pp said, don't worry about timing. He'll wake up when he's hungry.

Re: Newborn sleep schedule...
i count time for the begining of her last feeding. i pretty much feed on-demand, but i don't feed earlier than 3 hours if she wants to go 4 that's good for me. i let her tell me when she's hungry it's usually never before 3 hours.
hope that helps.

Re: Newborn sleep schedule...
It's supposed to be 3 hrs from the beginning of the feeding (so 3, then 6). For the first 2-3 weeks, I would wake DS up during the day to feed him but not at night.
After that, like the pp said, I would feed on demand, but DS was like clockwork and would wake up himself every 3 hours.

He'll get up when he is hungry and wants to eat. We never woke up DS to feed him - he ALWAYS let us know

Unless your baby is low weight and needs to eat every 3 hours, I would let DC sleep if he/she wants to do so. Most likely, you will be woken up about every 3 hours anyway.

Same here. Some nights he slept longer and some less but he always woke up when he was hungry.

Re: Newborn sleep schedule...
The words "newborn" and "sleep schedule" shouldn't be in the same sentence
But seriously, I never woke DS to eat, they will let you know
