Newborn shoot?!
I absolutely CANNOT believe the price quote I just got from a local photographer!!! ( I live in MA)
Her work is gorgeous, but seriously. It was $350 for the shoot and a $650 print minimum. I thought that was a little steep, but I also don't remember what I paid for DD1's 3 years ago so I was open minded to the idea of inflation and that it might include announcements and other essentials we would purchase anyway.
Well I just got off the phone with her and although there is a $650 print minimum, her least expensive package is 1100 dollars!!! And if I want to get all the images on a USB without any prints it's
$1600!!!!
$2000 when all is said and done?!?! Is this typical now?

That's crazy! Some of them are getting out of control! The one I just used for family photos was $175 for an hour and ALL digital prints. I believe the newborn package is the same.

I would never in a million years pay thousands of dollars for pictures. I know some photographers do stunning work but at the end of the day, it's just a picture and one that in a few months/years you'll swap out of the frame for something else. I just can't justify spending that kind of money to get a few shots of my kids.

Is that the same place you went for DD1? Some of them do increase as they get more popular, but I wouldn't pay that much. I'm looking at a few photographers around $500 for DD3. For DD1, I think I paid $400.

I talked to a few people who wanted that kind of money, it was crazy to me. I paid around $300 for 20 pics and they were perfect.

Exactly - some of the quality makes me question these "fauxtographers." I know someone who paid close to $1k for someone I have NEVER heard of and the pics were really "okay" and that is being generous.

I just messaged a bunch of people for newborn photos on facebook and it ranged from $400-$1200 nothing cheaper. I know they spend a lot of time and it can take a while with a baby but really? This did not include any prints.

Try Amy Halpin Photogrophy. She is a vendor on here. She did my DD's newborn photo shoot and it came out wonderful!
ETA oops saw that you are OOS. But maybe that info will help anyone else on LI that is looking.

i did some more research and found someone much more reasonable who I feel does great work.
I actually called back the first person to tell them her prices are outrageous so we wouldn't be booking with her. I don't usually do things like that but I honestly felt scammed by her!

I paid $500 or so and that included a mini maternity shoot, the USB with the newborn and 8 maternity pics and an 11x14. The photographer was fabulous too.

I'm also in Massachusetts ( not sure where you are) but used JLS photography for my DS newborn and 1 yr shoot (4 years ago )and my DD's newborn and 1yr old shoot this year. While her prices went up from 3 years ago (was $175 at the time) she is excellent and still very reasonable. Newborn shoot was $350 with literally like 100 pictures for digital download; and 1 yr old pictures were much less expensive then the newborn (and well worth it as well as we did a family shoot with my DS and DD)
