newborn question-congestion/phlegm. PLEASE help

DD is almost 5 weeks. She's incredibly congested today. So much so that you can hear the phlegm in her throat.
She doesnt have a fever or anything (Thank God) but you can tell she's very uncomfy and is having trouble drinking her bottle in full b/c she stops to breathe.
I spoke to the Ped eariler this morning and she advised me to get a humidifier and some saline drops to use with an aspirator. We have an appt with the Ped tomorrow anyway so she said she'll take a better look tomorrow.

Is the saline and humidifier enough? Will this help her discomfort??

I feel TERRIBLE for her. She's so tiny and can't breathe and you can even hear it in her sleep

her behavior hasn't changed though. She's been awake a lot today and is playing with us.

the peds right. use the saline drops and the aspirator first to clear out her nasal passages then sit with the humidifer on. i would also let the steam run in the shower and sit with her in there fora few mins to loosen up the phlegm. she'll more than likely spit up to get it all out. hope she feels better!

Also, elevate her mattress on one end (whatever end her head lays on) so that all the congestion doesn't pool in her head/chest. Hope she feels better soon!

We started with the saline and it already seems to be helping. A lot is coming out and she sneezed a lot out too.
we're going to do the steam and humidifier later.

It's so hard when they are tiny and congested but it sounds like you are doing everything right! We used Little Noses saline drops and a humidifier (we used warm mist but my ped said either is fine). We were actually told not to aspirate the boogies bc it can irriate the nose but to let them come out on their own. My little guy had trouble with his bottle too and it was so hard to watch. People here suggested that I feed him smaller amounts more often and to feed him more upright. Also, the crib wedge might help too. Hope your little one feels better soon!

my Dd is also 5 weeks and has the same thing and my ped said to do the same thing we are starting the humidifier today and she also seems to be sneezing alot more so hopefully it will work... good luck
