newborn poop question
DD is one week old and has been going about 6-7 times a day since the hospital, but we realized she has not had a bowel movement in 24 hours. Is this normal? Should we call the ped?

Re: newborn poop question
DS was pooping a few times a day and then when we got him home and had to switch formulas it stopped. The Ped said that its totally normal to skip a few days. She would be concerned if it were a week that had gone by, but its normal for even a few days to go by w/o one.
So maybe play it out a few days and see how it goes.

Re: newborn poop question
i agree, it does depend on whether theyre on FM of BM
when DD was on BM (the first 3 weeks) she pooped with EVERY feeding, so like 12 times daily
now since shes been on FM its usualy 1-3 times daily
ETA the Peds told us they can vary from twice daily to once every 2 days on FM. as long as your LO doesnt seem to be in pain and is eating like normal I wouldnt worry yet.

Re: newborn poop question
It is normal. I had the same thing happen (DD is now 5 weeks) I called the pediatrician within days of being home and he said that it is completely normal. Now DD goes only once every other day and apparently that is okay.
They also said that if I was concerned bec her belly was hard etc. I could "stimulate the anus by sticking the thermometer inside for a few min."
Hope this helps!
