Newborn nighttime feeding - do you unswaddle?
DS #2 is a little over 3 weeks. He is swaddled at night. My question is do you unswaddle and change diaper for every nighttime feeding, even if you know there is only pee. My problem is that when I do unswaddle then I have to reswaddle after he is done eating and then try to get him back to sleep. But when I don't unswaddle I feel like he is only eating for a short time. I can't remember what I did with DS #1 and it wasn't even that long ago! TIA

I unswaddled and changed as newborns because my girls needed to be cooler and a little uncomfy so they wouldnt fall asleep.
When they got older I stopped changing.

I used to unswaddle because dd would get on the breast and fo right back to sleep and barely eat. If i unswaddled shed eat more and sleep longer. I used to change diapers at first cause i didnt know you didnt have to. Eventually i would only change if the diaper felt packed out with pee pee.

I un swaddled and changed her diaper before feeding, then fed and re-swaddled she used to pretty much be sleeping while I re-swaddled. I think I read somewhere that they need to stretch a bit rather then being swaddled for hours, but I could be making that up ;)
ETA-unswaddling allowed her to wake up a bit to drink the ilk.

Newborn nighttime feeding - do you unswaddle?
I unswaddle and change and then re-swaddle when DD is done eating. I was told by the LC at the hospital that it is uncomfortable for them to eat while swaddled.

Ditto.. DS is 2.5 weeks and this is what we're doing. I change his diaper each time just in case... he hates it but it also perks him up a bit enough to get the energy to have a full feeding before falling asleep.

I have the opposite. Dd is 8 weeks and at first I I swaddled and changed her re swaddled. I took forever for her go back to sleep.
A few weeks ago I decided to not change her figuring as soon as she sttn I wouldn't change her, and dd1 sttn at 1 month so I knew it wasn't bad. So now I pick her up as she is, swaddled, feed and put back. For the most part she goes right back.
The diaper change woke her ip to much.

at that age i would unswaddle and diaper DD because if i didnt she wasnt awake enough to take a feeding - she would have a sip and go back to sleep

I did, because i would change her diaper. It gave me time to let the bottle warm up.
