Newborn moms - feeding question

I'm having a hard time figuring out when Tyler gets fussy if he is still hungry for more formula, or if he is having gas issues.

He has been taking in 2 ozs every three hours. At night he seems to be very fussy. I thought it was gas since he seemed like he was in pain. DH thinks he was telling us he's still hungry.

Sure enough we gave him a little more formula and he was ok.

I just don't want to do the wrong thing and give him more formula if he is in fact just having gas issues.

My guess is when he's that young, and if you try feeding he eats, he prob was hungry

I don't think he'll take more formula at this point if he doesn't want it.

I agree with the previous posters. If he eats additional formula, it's because he needs it. I don't think you can really overfeed newborns. The amount they eat changes as they grow, and they grow SO MUCH in the beginning, you have to constantly adjust how much you give them.

my dr told me to feed the baby on demand and i can always tell when hes hungry cause he starts licking his hands. if it was gas, he would push the bottle out and not take in more. justins 16 days and is eating 3.5-4oz per feeding.

At that age I put an extra half ounce in each bottle (i.e. if he consistently takes 2oz, make his bottles 2.5). Once he starts taking the 2.5, I'd make them 3oz - this way it's always there for him if he wants more and you'll know right away if he's still hungry or if it's something else.
