newbie question TMI (long) UPDATED

Hey everyone

My name is Candice and I am very new to being preg. I figure I am only about 5 weeks I have my first doc appt. tomorrow so I will be asking him this question as well.
This morning I woke up and went to the washroom and when i wiped there was a very little hint of blood in my urine. I was fine all day at work but when I came home (with another preg test) there was a bit in my underwear...not a ton but enough...I took the test and it turned + before the line even showed up saying i did it right (clear blue easy) so i wipe again and there is a little more light coloured blood...should i be concerned??? i scared the crap out of myself this morning and ended up in tears at work...this is our first attempt and first preg. im 24 has anyone ever had this happen? I told my one friend at work shes a lot older (58) and she said that her daughter had the same thing with her second child so that helped me through the day...but I am still terrified that something is wrong!

********** So i had my doc appt today....he didnt seem too concerned with the spotting...told me that if it gets more then the little bit it is now like heavy to go to emerg asap...which i think im good...he seems to think its perfectly normal so that made me feel better! i have to go in to have blood taken anytime so i will just go to the hospital this week for that...btw i guess i should say i live in Ontario and our health system is soooo dif from yours! we dont have to pay but you guys seem to have way better care! just from what i have read anyway...my next doc appt isnt until june 5th...i dont even know about sonos!

Alot of people have spotting all through out their pg. This early, it could be implantation bleeding or old blood left over from your last cycle.

The dr will probably test your blood for hcg (pg hormone) & then test it again 1-2 days later. As long as the hcg levels are increasing, you're fine.

Good luck

it's true, in some cases bleeding in early pregnancy can be a sign of miscarriage, but having said that, MANY women bleed early on and it's TOTALLY NORMAL.

some general "rules" - if it's only a spot or two, or if it's brown, and if it's not accompanied by cramping, it's usually ok.

i would let your doctor know, just to be on the safe side, but overall i wouldn't worry about it. Chat Icon

i spotted twice in the earlier weeks - about 5 and 6 wks along. doc said it could happen (ms) but that spotting is normal due to implantation, especially if its darker brownish b/c then it is old blood. he did tell me n my husband to abstain till our next appointment though, just to be safe. good luck!

Re: newbie question TMI (long)

For many women light blood is okay in the pregnacy. My dr told me as long there it is not bright red, and alot ( enough to fill a pad) then not to worry. Also are you having any cramps??? I know it sounds so much easier said then done but try your best to relax. ( keep your legs up )

It's probably nothing to be concerned about, but you should definitely tell your doctor at your appt. If you start bleeding heavily this evening, I would call the doctor or go to an ER.

Otherwise, as long as you aren't bleeding heavily enough to cover a pad in an hour or two, it's fine. This happened to me last week (I'm 9 wks. now), and I was worried. I spoke to my doctor though, and it was fine. The spotting stopped in a couple of days and may have been caused by the examination I had shortly before.

Good luck! Hope all is well.
