dh and i just moved and we're doing some remodeling in our house.

i've never seen it done but my contractor insists that we should be painting our ceiling (vaulted) a few shades darked than the walls.

he says that this will draw the eyes up and make the ceiling a focal point of the room.

thoughts? any pics to share?

TIA!

it *may* draw your eye up BUT it is going to make that ceiling feel much lower then it is.

IMO- a vaulted ceiling is vaulted for a reason, to make the space feel much larger. Painting it a darker color will defeat the purpose.

Unless the space feels way to big, and lost with all your stuff in it, I would not do this.

we have a huge ceiling in our great room, and when we bought the house, the ceiling was the same color as 2 of the walls and it looked awful....we painted it white and OMG the room looks amazing, so much bigger and brighter, but we also have a ton of windows and natural light and 2 skylights in that room.....

i would advise white or a light color....JMO
good luck!!!!!!!
n lucky you for having a contractor to paint for you.....DH did ours and i prayed everyday while he was on this huge ladder while home alone

I totally agree with Heather. Do you have pics of the room. Do you have a lot of lighting and windows?

i am painting the ceiling but a light gray and the walls will be a gray blue/blue so the molding pops.

I have seen it on TV with dark blue ceilings with a light wall it makes it more cozy feeling. If that is what you want.

From what I know it should be a few shades lighter (25% of the color of the walls).

ets: If you want the room cozier than I would paint it darker, but if you like the feel of a larger room (open) I would make it lighter.
