Congratulations on your new kitten! :)

I just got a kitten recently too.. You might want to pick up more cat litter too - I go through it a lot more quickly now that I have 2 cats :)

Also, I buy Arm & Hammer litterbox deoderizer. My kitten's litterbox smells much worse than my older cat's for some reason...

What kind are you getting?? Post pics when you can!!!

litter is on my main shopping list- b/c I need that in general- but thanks- i added it to this list just in case!

I have no idea what kind of kitten she is- she is one of the ones found in the garage- I have my eye on a white one- now I am hoping it's a she- but we wil find on on sunday morning when we go to pick her up!

I will post pics as soon as she is home!!

I am so excited- even my DH is begging to go get her now!

Beth, my kitten loved playing with this toy. We bought it at PetSmart. He'd pounce on it and play with it for hours. A year later he still plays with it (on occasion).

He also loved these plastic toys. He was teething and loved playing with them (he still does).

Re: New Kitten Shopping list- Please Review!

Oh, we also bought a small dog cage for him to sleep in at night for the first couple of weeks. The cage was big enough for his food dishes, a small litter box and a blanket and one toy.

He had a virus that he picked up from the other cats at the shelter. We didn't want him spreading it to our other cat, so we kept him in the cage at night.

He also was sooo tiny, that we didn't want him getting stuck in some small opening when we weren't home or were sleeping. He seemed to be ok with it since he was used to being in a cage anyway.

He outgrew it in a couple of weeks, but it was worth the investment in the short run.

You're just going to fall in love with your new kitten as soon as you see her!!!

ETA: For your other cat, how about some cat nip to mellow him out?? And new treats for him.

We also bought a different kind of litter when Samson was a baby. He looked more like pellets. When we tried the powdered litter, he didn't know what to do with it and kept digging it up, which made a huge mess! Thank God he outgrew that!

Sammy chillin in his cage (11 weeks old):

Yes i agree. Both my cats use the same litter box and we go through A LOT of kitty litter and we use the Arm & Hammer stuff too.

Also do you have plenty of scratching posts?

Sounds good...just keep catnip aways from her - she's too young for it now.

I like the idea of getting some special treats/toys for your current cat so s/he doesn't feel neglected...

Have fun - can't wait to see pics!

Those plastic toys rule.

Def get a blanket. make sure you give them seperated for a few days. Introduce them gradually. Have them "exchange" blankets.

great idea- we are only going to let them be together when we are home for a while

and Jake is going to care for the kitten most of the time - b/c I am closer with the cat we have now

yes what we would do is i would be in one room with the new kitten and i would open the door a tiny tiny bit. This way the kitten and our other cat could smell eachother and no scratching or hissing would take place. Then let the kitten out for an hour and see how it goes (while you're supervising). Then the next day... 2 hours and so forth. After about 4 days, we just let them out and do their thing. Chat Icon

her name is Maggie- Jake wanted to name her Paris- but I put my foot down! Chat Icon

she is so tiny and cute- she is eating, but not going to the bathroom yet

crokey is doing better then we thought- he follows her around- when she gets too close to him (which happens alot- he lifts his paw to get out of her way)

he did hiss once- but she though his tail was a toy- which did not go over well- his tail is his pride and joy

I think they will be ok together- I am still giving him a ton of attention- and Jake is taking care of Maggie- (he said he is getting ready for when we have a baby- scary thought....)

Very cute name! Glad to hear they are getting along well. That wasn't the case when we adopted our kitten. Our first cat was very territorial.

Didn't Crokey come from home full of other cats? He might like the company now.

Best wishes with your new little family. Chat Icon

thanks- yes he was from a home with 5 or 6 cats- another persian and a bunch of hairless- she favored the hairless- so he never got attention

I think he will like to have a sister - once he fully gets used to it- he is not getting any less attention- so he should be fine!
