New Here w/ ?'s

Hi everyone. I'm in my late 30's and DH mid 40's. We are TTC baby #1 and after 7 months with no success I met with my Dr. yesterday and she suggested several steps. First is to have DH's sperm analyzed. My ? is if his sperm comes back an issue, what do they do for him? The receptionist at the Urologist office was not very helpful. TIA!

Re: New Here w/ ?'s

hi and welcome!

first q is did you see a reproductive specialist?

as far as semen analysis goes...if there is a male factor it depends on what the issue is. there are medications or sometimes doctors suggest iui's or ivf.

my best suggestion is if you are over 35 to see a specialist and not just a reg gyno. usually they are much more informative and able to do more extensive testing!

good luck!

I think the first things you should put for are a semen anaylsis, an HSG test for you (they shoot dye into your tubes to make sure they aren't blocked), and a general blood test for you and DH, ask for a full panel.

I would definitely start with an RE, and they can take it from there.

Good luck!Chat Icon

The first step is to analyze your DH's sperm because that is not invasive - it's the easiest to do. You will also most likely go for bloodwork and an ultrasound.

I'm dealing with issues with DH right now. He had 0 sperm, unfortunately. Then he went for lots of bloodwork. The bw came back normal for genetics (thankfully) but he has really, really low testosterone. So, this week the dr actually put him on clomid, hoping to regulate his hormones so he begins to produce sperm on his own. It will be a few months before we know anything. But we're moving in the right direction.

GL to you and keep us updated!
