new here, new mom, help!

Hi, I am new to this site. I have a 5 month old daughter.
I am having a tough time with her. SHe is very difficult. SHe has relux, which has gotten better, but it is still an issue sometimes. She just seems to be an unhappy girl. She has small windows of when she is happy, but normally she is very cranky, cries a lot and has trouble sleeping. Will this get better, or is she just going to be tough?

any suggestions/help would be great!!!

Have you tried her on any cereals yet? Rice/oatmeal? My DS has refux and this made a big defference.

have you tried swaddling her when she sleeps and putting a towel under her mattress to elevate one side of it?

with the reflux also keep her sitting up or in a slanted position.

cereals and solid foods help too.

Both my girls were like that - they both had bad colic and reflux. With DD#1 it resolved around 6 months and with DD#2 around 4.5 months. It WILL get better - for both just one day something changed - it got really bad for a few days then almost disappeared as quickly as it started. It is VERY hard but don't get discourage it WILL get betterChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks! Yes, she is on rice, it does help her and she is no longer swaddled, she does better with that now. Her crib is raised and there is a white noise machine in there as well.

Maybe it is just bad colic. I read the books, keep her on a routine and still have trouble. She did just go down now, we'll see how long it lasts!

Thanks for the suggestions!!!

Welcome. Do you think she could be teething? Is it colic? Could she be allergic to something you are eating for BM or the type of formula you are giving?

Re: new here, new mom, help!

My DS just turned 5 mo. and he has good days and bad days. Today he cried and whined more than he smiled. He is on antibiotics for ear infection and has a cough but I think it is mostly teething. His hands are always in his mouth and he is chewing on them constantly.

He is not a huge fan of solids...I can get him to take a few bites and than he isn't interested anymore. I think that plays a big part in his lack of sleeping as well. Tonight it took me almost 2 hours to get him to sleep Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon And I had to walk him around my house in a stroller to do it.

My ped said she is beginning to teeth, but not enough to make her fussy. How she knows that, beats me!!

It is just frustrating some days...she has been up 2x since she went to bed at 9. it's amazing bc when she wakes up a lot at first, i know i am in for a long night!

would you ever give tylenol at night if it gets bad? she doesn't cry too much, as long as she is being held. thats why i am not sure if she is teething.

Thanks again!
