Congratulations! Don't be nervous -- try to turn it into excitement!
If you just got your bfp this week, I'm not sure what they will be doing at a first appointment this early. You could be less than 5 weeks along, in which case all they may do is take a little blood. Can you call the appointment line back and ask if it's for a sono or conference with the doctor or just a blood test? If it's just a blood test, DH never came with me for those. If it's to meet with the OB and have a first sono, then you'd want your husband there.
Pregnancy is a very exciting time, but also extremely nerve-wracking because you never quite know what's going on in there! Keep your faith up and ask lots of questions!

Thanks!! They said if the technician is there they would do a ultrasound. If not I'd have to come back. I wish I could figure out how far along I am. I was very irregular - so going by last af might be out.
Thanks for the imput

I was totally irregular too and always had to be dated at a sono around 8 weeks (for both pregnancies). They did a blood test first to get a beta # just to get an idea of how far along I was but the range is giant. With DD, my HCG # was 42,500 which put me "somewhere between 6 and 8 weeks" -- I went back around 2 weeks later and the baby measured exactly 8 weeks. She was born one day early.
I hope you get a sono and they see something! If not, I'm sure you'll go back a week or two later and they will! Good luck!!

Usually 1st appointments they go over the "don't haves" and talk about vitimins. If you don't know when you ovulated and you do have a sono PLEASE don't freak out if you don't see what you may be expecting. If you are only around 5 weeks or so you probably won't see a heartbeat, and there may not be a fetal pole either.
My first u/s the tech measured the sac to date me. We barely saw anything there baby wise. The week after there was a fetal pole, and the beginnings of a heart beat. Two weeks after that there was a strong heart beat and a little bean !!
Good luck and have a happy and healthy 9 months !!!

Re: New here
First off...welcome and congrats!!!
Usually they will do a sono to try and date you, especially if you're unsure of your dating on LMP and O. They may send you for bloodwork or wait until your next appt.
Don't get freaked out if you don't see much on the sono if you're only around 5wks since it maybe be a little early
As for DH with his work schedule it's hard for him to get to too many of my appts so no, this time around he did not come to the first appt with me.
GOOD LUCK!!!

congrats!!! so exciting hmm considering you dont know how far along you are i would have DH go with you just to be safe bc he prob wouldnt want to miss the first sono. at my first appt (7w3d) they did an internal sono and we got to see the heartbeat....it was pretty amazing. then we sat down and went over the do's and dont's of pregnancy, what to expect, where the dr delivers etc. i found it helpfu lto have DH there for all of that. other than that, i was given paperwork to go to a lab for bloodwork and that was it good luck and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome and congrats! !
DH came with me to all the sono appointments (which included the very first dr appt). If you think you may be getting a sono, you should prob bring him - i'm sure he'd want to see the Little Bean
