New here..
Hi everyone! im an old poster in hiding for TTC reasons. i wasnt a huge poster so i dont think anyone would even know who i was anyway!
DH and i have been TTC since March 2011. We sought out an RE in September 2011 due to my long cycles.
since then i have been diagnosed with PCOS, thyroid issues (now on synthroid 50mg daily) and elevated prolactin.
DH has issues as well with his count hovering aroung 1 million with motility around 14%.
we have had 3 failed IUIs with clomid (first was 50 mg then 100mg twice and 150mg this cycle) so far and are about to have our 4th with in the next few days. (needed progesterone supp for every cycle)
i have had the xray uterus test done which showed a mass in my uterus. continued to an endometrial biopsy which showed fragments of polyps and finally a saline sono which showed absolutely nothing wrong with my uterus (good news i guess?!) RE said polyps could have passed with my period..
RE (RSofNY) strongly suggests that we move onto IVF. im a little torn as to what to do.. i know its a personal decision and obviously we want a baby more than anything i just dont what to think!!! we wil be meeting with the finance dept to discuss our payment options.. NO IVF coverage at all! :(
anyway.. here i am, im sorry this is so long i just wanted to get it all out there.
thanks for reading if you got this far!

Re: New here..
going to IVF so quickly is a big choice to make. especially if you dont have coverage for it....why does your RE want to move on to IVF after only 3 IUIs?

Re: New here..
I am so sorry that you have to go through this IF journey along with the rest of us Have you discussed with your doctor what other medications you can take, aside from Clomid, if you deiced to continue doing the IUI's instead of moving forward with IVF?
There are so many different types of pills out there, Arimidex, Femara, and also injectibles that may better work with your body to see if you can become pregnant before moving on to IVF.
IVF is a personal decision and you and your DH should discuss this together to see what is best for you.
DH & I have no IVF coverage so while we are only on Clomid now, we will be moving on to othe options before we decide to move ahead with IVF, hopefully we won't have to go there
Lots of luck to you in this cycle!

i had the same reaction.. he actually started discussing it with us after our first failed IUI. he is concerned with DHs very low sperm count and low motility and morphology. saying IUIs only increased our odds about 10%.
i also asked about injectables and he seemed to be against injectables and IUI bc of the chance of multiples.
i cant help but think its a money game..

ivf is a big step but i do agree if mf is the main issue i would go to ivf
but i have to ask why is he against multiples?

hes not against multiples but he was concerned with me producing too many eggs on injections bc i do not have issues with producing on clomid. he was just explaining that there is a high chance of MANY babies with injections bc it is less controlled than IVF.. sorry i didnt explain well. (im actually hoping for twins!)

kwim?
i guess it depends if they think mf is the main issue or not

I do not have any advice, but I just wanted to say Welcome.
We skipped over IUIs entirely since we have severe MFI....

Re: New here..
i would definitely go with IVF if the issue was MFI... at least you know the eggs are fertilized when they are put back...

Re: New here..
Welcome!
If you're responding well to clomid, there's probably not a reason to go to injectibles. How many follies are you producing each month?
I have to say, though, if your husband's count is only around 1 million, that's really low for IUIs. 5 million is usually the minimum they like to see - and that's post-wash so the motility would be fairly high.
IVF, likely with ICSI, will take the best sperm and put it directly into your egg. You will have a much higher probability than IUI. Also, there's no evidence that continuing to do IUIs is all that lucrative. Most women for whom IUIs will work, will get pregnant by their 3rd or 4th IUI.
IVF is a big step and it's expensive, but having done 4 IUIs already, it's kind of your next step. Is taking a break to save $$ an option? Or borrowing from either of your families? You have to weigh your options and we're all here to help give you advice!

thank you and everyone for the welcome and much appreciated advice!! i really mean it, its so great to have this community especially when no one else really understands this process unless you are going through it. so thank you!!
DH and i are leaning towards continuing out this IUI and having ONE more IUI and then move onto IVF.
fortunately, DH owns his own business and we are looking into other insurance policies that cover/partially cover IVF as we do the IUIs.
and you are right, RE said if and when we move to IVF ICSI is the best option for us bc of the sperm count (around 900,000 post wash)
thanks again! you are all a wealth of knowledge!

Re: New here..
I'm also a patient of RSofNY, and in my experience, they're pretty conservative. So, if they're recommending IVF it's because the dr thinks that's your best chance of getting pregnant.
Good luck with whatever you decide!

Re: New here..
Welcome Welcome welcome! I think that many people here will tell you not just their opinion, but things that you need to hear to have your babies! We all want everyone to succeed in their journey.
At 36 years old with a medical condition, I felt that iui was too low in stats to be a good decision. I had 4 failed iui's even though I am a great responder and RE waS sure it would work.
If you are responding well to stims, IVF will be great for you. You are able to choose how many embies to put back to optimize your chances. I put in 2 and I am happy to say both took!
Best of luck to you and welcome to our loving and caring community!
