New Convertible Car Seat Regulations?

Hi ladies,

My son is almost a year old and we are looking for the next car seat. I had heard that the regulations changed for extended rear facing car seats. Does anyone know what they are now, up to how old or how many lbs? Anyone know a few good car seats I could take a look at?

Thank you so much!!!

Samantha

Re: New Convertible Car Seat Regulations?

It's not a law or a regulation, but the new RECOMMENDATION is rear facing until at least 2 years- or until they hit the weight limit for rear facing- which ever comes first.
The weight limit will vary based on what seat you have though.

Thank you!!! What weight limit would you recommend for rear facing? Do you have a brand or style you like?

Re: New Convertible Car Seat Regulations?

I have the Britax Bouelvard 70 CS
I really like it.
You can easy adjust the harness height without rethreading the whole seat
And it clicks to let you know you have tightened it enough.
I am not sure of the rear facing limits- but I know they are pretty high
We didn't turn her until after 2 years old

We kept all our DC rear facing until 2 years old in a Britax Marathon and Britax Roundabout.

Most seats now can stay rear facing to 40 lbs.

We have a Marathon and Roundabout as well but, moved DS at 18 months. We'll keep DS 2 rear facing to 2 though in the same seats.

Yep, and AJ is 4 and still just 35lbs! haha Chat Icon

We have a Recaro Como. Up to 70lbs, super comfy with lots of nice padding and microfiber.

New Convertible Car Seat Regulations?

The law does not dictate FF or RF position, it does however have a proper use clause. The current recommendations from the NHTSA and AAP are to RF to at least two years of age, to the limits of a convertible seat.

My older DD stayed RF until she was 4 in a Graco Myride and Britax Marathon, also had a True Fit premier. DD2 is now two and still RF in a Boulevard and MyRide

Seats I usually recoimmend to parents that will last most children til 2 RF and 5ish FF, fit in a majority of vehicles and aren't atrocious to install/use:

Graco My Ride
Graco MySize 70/Size 4 Me
Britax Marathon/Boulevard
True Fit Premier
Evenflo Triumph Advance 65/Symphony
