Thanks for the advise. By family I meant grandparents and aunts and uncles so I think it's not too much. GOing to have everyone together.

When you say family, do you mean adults? I guess you know your audience best. I have a large family (adults) and they would probably go crazy if I was trying to host a bunch of kids with more structured activities (even if they were close friend's kids) or of kids were running all over the place and splashing around In a pool. Why not just stagger the times - have kids over for lunchtime, then ask the adult family members to come by around 3. Anyone who fits both categories (one really close friends or family with kids) can just stay all day. This way you are only setting up once.
As for theme, I think just doing invitations and maybe cake plates in Spider-Man is enough, along with the right colors for balloons. No need to buy everything Spider-Man!
For favors, maybe dollar store beach toys being that it's a pool party? Or an inexpensive badminton or Velcro catch set or something outdoorsy like that. For adult family members to a 6 year old party, I don't think you need favors.
