Re: Neighbor's dog digging into my yard (via digging a hole under my fence) WWYD?

Maybe line your fence with stone? Stacked a few high and a few out. You will lose a little space in the yard, but it should help keep the dog out.

Sorry to say but some people are just careless. And because they don't seem bothered by their dog getting out, I doubt they'll be interested in how to keep him in.

You on the other hand have a large dog and if your dog were to get out, people would see it as a threat and you can lose your dog.

I would also X-post in the Pets section, to see if any other dog owners have a solution.

You're really going to have to make some sort of barrier underground, to prevent the digging. Chicken fence buried underground, or blocks just under the surface. If you bury them a little, you won't see them. You won't be able to put plants over them, but you could use some type of landscaping to cover the blocks.

Dig a trench about 4 feet deep the entire length of the fence. Attach chicken wire to the bottom of the fence in the trench and back fill to bury the wire. This will stop the dog from getting in.

My dog got out 2x and I did something like this. I went to the hardware store and bought metal fencing that was short and white to match my fence. The stakes dug into the grass and it blocked my dog from getting out via the space under the fence. It was only a few dollars a roll at Ace.

Thank you for this reply - If this is what it takes to keep our dog in, we'll have to do it but the neighbor's dog came in on the north side of my fence, while the neighbors live on the south side (dog got out, ran around the front of my house and dug under the opposite side!)
I'm frustrated because this will be a LOT of work and it's not something I really have time to do....wishing my neighbor's dog just stayed put, KWIM?

Find out if your neighbors will share the cost of putting in the wire, so that both of your dogs will be safe.
Play the "I'm concerend that your dog could get hurt or hit by a car by running outside" card and see if they bite.
I have no patience for irresponsible pet owners.

I like my neighbors, but I have very little respect for them as pet owners. This dog gets out ALL.THE.TIME. and I've had other neighbors bring him to my house because his owners either aren't home or they're not concerned that he got out (ie someone two blocks over knocked on my door once with him because the neighbors were home but weren't answering their door). I've personally chased their dog back into our court (with two young kids while 9mos prego) because I was afraid he'd get hit by a car....their reply was, "I'm not sure I'd be upset if he didn't come back." Chat Icon They've even asked if I would consider adopting him and I replied that if they don't want to care for the dog they should find another home for him -- he's a cute dog who would be adopted quickly IMO....he just needs more attention - poor thing.

My neighbor's dog does the same thing. Before I got my dog fixed I was afraid he was going to impregnate her.

I don't have a solution because that dog dug under the wire I put under the fence.

BUT, the dog just one day really ran away from the owners. I've never seen or heard him again.

I'm glad he's gone b/c he sarted hanging out in my yard and leaving "presents" for me.
