Never thought announcing would be so difficult
We finally had our first appointment on friday at 8 weeks and were so excited to tell my family yesterday. I tried to keep it simple and just got DD a shirt that said "I'm the best big sister". I was not expecting it to be so warm that I couldn't cover it with a sweater until we can get everyone together to see.
We get there and my sister is upstairs getting dressed, her fiance is in the kitchen, and my parents are outside. So now I'm holding DD tight to me so sister's FH doesn't see it first, calling my sister from the bottom of the stairs to hurry up and come down, and praying my parents don't come in. She finally comes in and I pretty much just take off outside knowing she'll probably follow me. So we finally have everyone together and I pass DD to my mom and for the next several minutes she's passed back and forth between my mom and sister and nothing! All my mom can talk about is how she must be so hot in tights! Fine, we take off the tights and let her walk around, DH keeps straightening her shirt and still nothing. Now people are starting to try to disperse and I have to keep coming up with ways to keep everyone there. Finally, DH grabs DD and stands her on top of the table and straightens her shirt yet again and they FINALLY read the shirt! Needless to say they were thrilled and I was already sweating! Moral of the story I guess, if you go with the cute shirt make sure it has GIANT thick block lettering!

That's awesome! I'm still trying to figure out a good way to tell my mommy. I'm 10w2d and still nervous to tell, but seeing my doc on Thursday again, and if all goes well, I want to tell this weekend. It's my mom's first grandchild. though, my aunt "outed" me just between us yesterday. She saw my seabands and was asking about them. She pulled me aside later and was just like "how far along are you?"... I said almost far enough to tell, but not just yet, I told her I hadn't even told mom yet.

That's funny. It sounds like my family. I want to do the same thing to announce and my family and in-laws are so oblivious I'm sure they won't even notice either! Lol

Re: Never thought announcing would be so difficult
Sounds similar to my experience telling my inlaws about my first pregnancy!
Congrats!

Re: Never thought announcing would be so difficult
I have a similar story when we announced #2! I had dc#1 where a cute shirt and had my whole family over for dinner. 3 hours passed and not one single person noticed the shirt except for my uncle who said he read it when they first got there but thought he shouldn't say anything!
Congratulations!

I don't know how you didn't say anything all that time! I would have died! I guess it's a common issue.

Re: Never thought announcing would be so difficult
We had the same problem LOL
Took Forever to get everyone in the same room And then "it's Christmas are you gonna change him out of the t shirt?" Our little guy was wearing a t shirt that said "I'm getting promoted to big brother" and we're just waiting and waiting for a reaction, sitting there going Hello?!
Lol sheesh

Lol- that's how I told DH (with a big brother shirt) and he was so confused why DS (who wears 12months) was in a 2T shirt! I had to tell him to read the shirt! People can be so oblivious!
