Need tree recommendations (updated with choice)
We are looking to plant a tree in our backyard (full sun until 3-4pm daily). We're in western Nassau so it's a small yard (50x100 property).
Ideally, I would love a tree that flowers around mid-May, is somewhat unique and (really ideally) blooms purple flowers.
Anyone have any recommendations?
TIA
Updated with result:
We found our tree this weekend - we went with an Eastern Redbud. The buds aren't as purple as the beautiful crepe myrtle Sherwood posted below but they're very deep pink / almost purple. It does bloom in mid-May and is pretty unique.
What really sold us was that the leaves, post-bloom, are shaped like perfect hearts. The tree will be planted with, but really is in memoriam of, our daughter. Her birthday is in May (hence that request) and the idea that the leaves will be in perfect hearts year after year just really was perfect for our needs

Re: Need tree recommendations
We planted a crape myrtle last year. They come in all colors, but the one we planted is lavender. The only thing is that it blooms mid-late summer, not in May. I don't think I have a pic of our tree, but I can try to find one online for you.
ETA: this pic. this is what ours will (hopefully) look like someday. Its just exquisite when its in bloom

so beautiful!! The top priority was to flower in May (it's for my daughter, whose birthday is in May) but I am totally keeping this in mind - we have another tree I don't think has much longer; I'd love to replace that with this!
